How to be Saved

"Becoming saved" is simply repenting of your sins and trusting Jesus to be your personal Lord and Savior. It is more than "head knowledge"; it is heart knowledge. It involves repenting of your sins, and asking Jesus to save you from your sins and be Lord (or boss) of your life. It is like crossing a bridge. But you are crossing from a "land of death" to a "land of life". That new life starts as soon as you believe and confess Jesus as your Savior and Lord. You will have a personal encounter with the living God. And it isn't just a one time event. It is a day to day walk and talk with Jesus as your friend and your companion.

This plan of "redemption" can be yours by:

1. Realizing that GOD LOVES YOU and HAS A PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
...."I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10b

2. Acknowledging your SIN

Man is sinful and separated from God. Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."

Man was created to have fellowship with God; but because of his own stubborn self-will, he chose to go his own independent way and fellowship with God was broken. This self-will, characterized by an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference, is an evidence of what the Bible calls sin. Consequently, there is a gulf between man and God. Man tries to bridge the gulf through a good life, philosophy, or religion. But every man made plan fails because man cannot be good enough to earn salvation. So, God made a BRIDGE. This BRIDGE IS IN THE SHAPE OF A CROSS.

3. Knowing that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SIN.

Jesus Christ is the ONLY WAY or provision for man's sin. THROUGH HIM you can know and experience God's plan for your life.

HE DIED IN OUR PLACE
"God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD

"Christ died for our sins.... He was buried.... He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures... He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that HE appeared to more than five hundred... (1 Cor. 15:3-6)
HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GOD
"Jesus saith unto him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)

4. Receive JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR AND LORD.

We must individually receive Jesus Christ (his Hebrew name is Yeshua HaMashiach) for then we will receive God's love and plan for our lives.

WE MUST RECEIVE CHRIST

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power (right, authority) to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in His name." (John 1:12)

WE RECEIVE CHRIST BY REPENTANCE AND FAITH

"...Repent ye, and believe the gospel." (Mark 1:15)

When you repent, you have a deep change in your mind and heart and choose to reject and forsake all known sin and the right to run your life independently of God. It is the act of getting off the throne of your life so that Jesus Christ may take His rightful place there. It is a spiritual U-turn before you believe. Jesus won't come into the heart of a dirty vessel; that sin must be confessed and when it is, that heart is cleansed.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."(John 1:9)

".....Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3)

Saving faith involves trusting Christ to come into our lives to forgive us our sins and to make us what He wants us to be. It is an act of surrender or total commitment to the Lordship or rule of Jesus Christ. This saving faith is a gift of God.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast."(Ephesians 2:8,9)

We RECEIVE CHRIST BY PERSONAL INVITATION

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." (Revelation 3:20)

WHEN WE RECEIVE CHRIST, WE EXPERIENCE THE NEW BIRTH

"....Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)
WHEN WE RECEIVE CHRIST, WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that Hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things are written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW (eido-fullness of knowledge; that is you know that you know that you know) that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:11-13)

Would you like to receive Christ today?????

Pray this prayer and email me so that we may rejoice in your salvation.

Dear God, I know I have sinned in thought, word, and deed. I have done things wrong and I have failed to do things I should have done. Please forgive me. I believe Jesus died for my sins. I know and accept your offer of eternal life (that life starts right now and continues in heaven). I will follow Jesus as my Savior and will obey Him with the help of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for my new life. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen

Once you have asked Jesus into your heart and life, you maintain that relationship by:

1. Reading and studying His Word, the Bible.
2. Get into a good, Bible believing church that stresses personal salvation by the blood of Jesus. Get under Bible teachers in your church or fellowship.
3. Spend time every day talking to Jesus, thanking and praising Him, and listening to His still, small voice.
4. Be obedient to what God tells you in His Word.
5. Overcome your daily trials by trusting in the power of His blood to help you.
6. Love God, love people. Think of others first. Die to selfishness.
7. Serve others at home, at church, and in your community.
8. Live a life of thankfulness, happiness, not complaining or talking evil of others.

More details about Redemption

Look up these scriptures as you study.

Becoming saved is the acceptance of God's plan of "redemption" for your life. Redeem means to ransom by paying the price. All redemptive covenants were ratified by the death of the victim. In the Old Testament this victim was an animal. (Hebrews 9:16; Genesis 15:9-16). Since the death of a victim was necessary to ratify covenants (in other words, a will doesn't go into effect until the person who owns that will dies), all of the covenants of the Old Testament were dedicated with blood (Hebrews 9:18-22). There was and is no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood (Hebrews 9:22). The blood of goats and calves which the Old Testament saints shed, was a figure (representation) of Christ's blood who would be shed once and for all and Christ's sacrifice would be perfect (Hebrews 10:1,10). Our redemption then is IN CHRIST (Romans 3:24), with His precious blood for He was a lamb without spot or blemish (1 Peter 1:18-19), and through His blood (Ephesians 1:7), for He died for us (Romans 5:8).

The benefits of this redemption are that we have been delivered from the "curse of the law" (Galatians 3:13)- (a curse is the opposite of being blessed because of our disobedience.) (See Deuteronomy 28 for a listing of the physical and spiritual curses that come on a person because of disobedience. These curses are broken when we personally receive Christ. But we have to stand on the Word and not let satan oppress us with these curses. We are delivered from the bondage of the law (it is like a weight around our neck. We cannot help but sin.) (Galatians 4:5), so we are adopted as His sons, delivered from iniquity (Titus 2:4), delivered from our enemies (Psalms 136:24), the power of the grave (Psalm 49:15), vain living (that which has no lasting merit)(1 Peter 1:18), and this present evil world (Galatians 1:4).

God's plan of redemption is ONE WAY and that way is in the person of Jesus Christ (John 14:6). Christ saved us from the penalty of sin by putting away our sins by the sacrifice of Himself on the cross (Hebrews 9:26). After his resurrection, He appeared in heaven before God the Father to save us from the power of sin (Hebrews 9:24); 1 John 2:11). And He will appear on earth again as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to save us from the very presence of sin (Hebrews 9:28).

More on the New Birth

The new birth is described in John 3:1-21 when Nicodemus comes to Jesus. The new birth is a spiritual birth. The first birth is a flesh birth. We were all born as babies. It is "the seed of man". The second birth is "the seed of God". (1 Peter 1:23; John 3:5,6) Born of water refers to physical birth; born of the spirit refers to spiritual birth. Born of flesh refers to physical birth; born of the Spirit refers to spiritual birth.

The physical, flesh birth produces an old, sinful nature (Psalm 51:5), a corruptible nature (1 Peter 1:23), an old nature under the sentence of death (Romans 6:23), and makes every unsaved person a child of the devil (1 John 3:10).

The new birth produces a sinless nature (1 John 3:9), a nature that cannot sin (1 John 3:9), a righteous nature (2 Corinthians 5:21), and a divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).

The only way to become a child of God is to be "born from above" by the incorruptible seed of God". What is the new birth?

The new birth is a NEW CREATION (2 Corinthians 5:17)
The new birth is a spiritual RESURRECTION. (Titus 3:5)
The new birth is a partaking of the DIVINE NATURE of God (2 Peter 1:4)
The new birth is RECEIVING CHRIST as Savior and Lord by faith (John 1:12)
The new birth is being made the "righteousness of God". (2 Corinthians 5:21)
The new birth is compulsory if you are to become a child of God. "Ye must be born again." (John 3:7)

Just as the serpent in the wilderness was the only means for the healing of Israel, so the death of Jesus Christ is the only means for the new birth (John 3:14-18). And the only way to appropriate the regenerating power of God is by faith in the vicarious death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

Every "born again" Christian has the threefold proof of the new birth- proof that he is a child of God. This threefold proof is: first, inward proof, second- outgoing proof, and third, outward proof. Loving our fellowman with the love of God is outgoing proof of the new birth (1 John 4:7-11). Doing right at all times and at all cost (1 John 2:29; 2 Corinthians 5:17) is outward proof of the new birth. (When we make a mistake, we repent and fellowship with God is restored).
